Cocteau Twins

Cocteau Twins
music that sounds like a dream you can't quite remember

If I could turn a feeling into a sound, I think it might sound something like Cocteau Twins. Elizabeth Fraser's voice is so otherworldly that sometimes it feels less like listening to somebody sing and more like listening to a beautiful language from another universe.

Everything is hazy, shimmering and slightly mysterious. Their music makes me think of pale pink skies, old photographs, strange little fairytales and walking around somewhere beautiful with absolutely nowhere to be.

♡ start with: Rilkean Heart, Cherry-coloured Funk and Heaven or Las Vegas.

The Sundays

Adrianne Lenker
for the feelings you don't know how to explain

There is something about The Sundays’ music that feels like a half-remembered dream. Harriet Wheeler’s voice floats somewhere between melancholy and sweetness, while the jangly guitars make even the saddest songs feel sunlit. Their music sounds like late summer afternoons, old photographs, and a feeling you can’t quite explain but never want to lose.

I love music that feels like a little secret, never needing to be loud to make itself known. A jangly guitar, Harriet’s dreamy voice, a few wistful lyrics, and suddenly you're staring out your bedroom window as though you're in an indie film from 1992. Very melancholic. Very necessary.

♡ start with: Here's where the story ends, Skin and Bones and songs from Reading, Writing and Arithmetic .

Nick Drake

Portishead
velvet curtains, rainy windows and late nights

Nick Drake is for those quieter, more introspective moods. His music feels delicate and a little melancholic, like an autumn afternoon that you wish could last forever. Just a soft guitar, a voice that sounds almost like a secret, and the feeling of being somewhere between a daydream and a distant memory. Perfect for staring out of windows and romanticising your entire existence.

Nick Drake has one of those voices that feels like a secret whispered in the quiet. There is something so delicate and melancholy about his music; soft, a little distant, and full of feelings you can't quite put into words. Beautiful in that understated way, like finding an old photograph and wishing you could step inside it.

♡ start with: Northern Sky, Pink Moon, Place to be and From the Morning.

Your turn!

I'm always looking for something new to obsess over. The stranger, dreamier, prettier the better. There is always room for one more song on the playlist!

Until next time, happy listening!
